Social media marketing doesn’t have to be complicated…and it may be one of the most important marketing campaigns you can roll out for the benefit of your business.

Nearly 4.5 billion people are currently active on social media, and a whopping 79% say user generated content strongly impacts their purchase making decisions. 1. Take Stock of Your Current Social Media Status

Most businesses have some form of social media out there, even if you aren’t tending to it properly. Oftentimes business owners have the best of intentions—they set up a profile on a platform or two, make it a few months with regular posts, and gain a few followers…only to have life get in the way or work inevitably gets busy, and your social media presence falls to the wayside.

If you have neglected profiles out there, now is the perfect time to give them a bit of an overhaul. Look them over to ensure they are optimised—your profile and cover photos are on brand, website links are still correct and your bio information is up to date.

If this is your first foray into the world of social media, build your profiles taking the same details mentioned above into account as you do. 2. Decide Which Platforms to Use

Some business owners are tempted to create a profile on every social media platform out there, thinking this will increase their number of followers. You’ve likely already analyzed your ideal customers and have demographic data telling you the typical age, location, income level, and occupation of your average customer. Such information can provide valuable clues as to what social media platforms your customers are most likely to use. For example, Facebook tends to attract an older audience, while Twitter is popular with middle-aged professionals, and Instagram appeals to younger social media users (30% of their audience is aged 18 – 24).

3. Take a Peek at Your Competition

Odds are you have competitors out there who are killing it on social media. Check out their social media to find out which platforms they are using most successfully. Take a look at their content…what speaks to their followers? Striking images? Informative graphics or video tutorials? Posts offering helpful tips and tricks?

Such reviews can provide insight on which platform to use. If your business caters to younger clientele and you find your competitors are killing it on Instagram buy have yet to build a platform on TikTok, this could be your opportunity to build a profile on a platform where customer base is currently underserved rather than try to duke it out on a platform where the competition is already well established.

4. Start Posting Quality Content…and Stay Engaged
